Short Film Analysis - Hello

A similar film to ours is 'Hello'.
Hello tells the story of a woman that becomes the prey of a hooded killer. While waiting for her boyfriend to come home, the phone rings.
The narrative is similar to our as it starts with two people arranging to meet up, this is similar to ours as 3 friends meet up. After receiving a phone call from her boyfriend, things start to go wrong. We assume that the boyfriend is dead after the phone call.

Similar shots-

In a similar to in to our film, the character sits down to watch TV.
Here we have similar shots of medium close up of Becky and a medium long shot of Alex and Charlie. Both films use hints of red in order to connote with danger and blood. In 'Hello' there is the subtle red in the painting behind the character and on the pillow behind her. In out film, Alex and Charlie are both wearing red, where Becky has a red coat placed behind her.

There are many other similar shots in this film, for example, when the character hesitantly goes to answer the phone, we have a medium shot of the character through the doorway. In our film we have a similar shot.

Other similarities with this film include the concept of a dead character phoning the protagonist.
This is used to build tension and allows the audience to feel the suspense. As the audience knows that the characters are dead. Here we also have similar shots, however one is more of an extreme close up.

Characters-
The killer in both films somehow find ways to get into the house. As well as this, in both instances the characters are wearing dark hoodies, this is done so to hide the identity as much as possible. However, in 'Hello' we never fin out who the killer is, whereas in our film we know that the killer is Ben. Another similarity with our film is one of the phone calls. When the main character answers the house phone, the killer says 'I've found you.' In our film we sort of pastiche this as when Ben rings Alex, he only says 'Found you'.

This is commonly found in horror films involving a killer that is 'stalking' their prey.
An example of this would be in the Ring 2, the villain grabs the character and says 'I found you'. This suggests that this brings a scary, suspenseful
feel to the films and is used to provoke fear in the audience.
